This eBook contains a great number of weird stories by various authors. H. P. Lovecraft, a master of this form, defined the weird fiction genre as follows: “The true weird tale has something more than secret murder, bloody bones, or a sheeted form clanking chains according to rule. A certain atmosphere of breathless and unexplainable dread of outer, unknown forces must be present; and there must be a hint, expressed with a seriousness and portentousness becoming its subject, of that most terrible conception of the human brain--a malign and particular suspension or defeat of those fixed laws of Nature which are our only safeguard against the assaults of chaos and the daemons of unplumbed space.” Weird fiction combines elements of horror, science fiction and fantasy.

The stories contained in this eBook were published in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (a golden age for weird fiction). Six authors are represented with a total of 9 novels/novellas and 75 short stories:
------------------
Algernon Blackwood: The Damned, The Empty House and Other Ghost Stories, The Wendigo, The Willows

Lord Dunsany: Sword of Welleran and Other Stories, A Dreamers Tales, The Book of Wonder

William Hope Hodgson: The House on the Borderland

H. P. Lovecraft: The Alchemist, The Beast in the Cave, Memory, Beyond the Wall of Sleep, Dagon, The White Ship, The Statement of Randolph Carter, The Doom That Came to Sarnath, Poetry and the Gods, The Cats of Ulthar, Nyarlathotep, Polaris, The Street, Ex Oblivione, Facts Concerning the, Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family, The Crawling Chaos, The Terrible Old Man, The Picture in the House, The Tree, The Nameless City, Herbert West—Reanimator, The Music of Erich Zann, The Tomb

Arthur Machen: The Great God Pan, The Shining Pyramid, The Three Imposters, The White People, The Bowmen and Other Legends of the War

Bram Stoker: Dracula

------------------

These authors are masters of horror, science fiction and fantasy; some are unfortunately largely forgotten today. They influenced each other and some of them continue to be favorites of contemporary authors in these genres. If you like Lovecraft then you should enjoy many of the stories of Machen, Dunsany, Blackwood and the other authors collected here.

We plan to add more weird stories to this eBook periodically (e.g. some science fiction by Conan Doyle) and increase the price accordingly. All updates for previously purchased copies of this eBook will be free.
